ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

Solberg Company Position on Fluorine Containing Firefighting Foams

It is the position of Solberg that RE-HEALING (RF) Foam is the World’s most effective firefighting foam concentrate for flame knockdown, fire control, extinguishment, and burn-back resistance. Control, extinguishing time, and burn-back resistance are paramount to the safety of firefighters everywhere.

The Voluntary Stewardship Program of the US EPA states that by the end of 2010, the industry achieve an intermediate goal of a 95% reduction in the production and use of long-chain perfluorinated chemicals (LCPFC’s). By the end of 2015, the goal is to phase out the production and use of long-chain perfluorinated chemicals. The Solberg Company has already achieved full 2015 compliance with its full range of RE-HEALING foam concentrates.

While this Voluntary Stewardship Program addresses the Persistence, Bioaccumulation, and Toxicity (PBT) of long chain perfluorinated chemicals, it does not address the firefighting performance of foam concentrates based on the newer generation of short-chain perfluorinated chemicals.

Solberg is committed to leading the foam fire suppression industry with innovative and high performance products.

Company Commitment to the Environment

As a Division of Perimeter Solutions, Solberg is committed to manufacturing superior products while at the same time protecting and preserving the Earth’s natural resources.

The Green Bay, Wisconsin Operation has been developed with a “green” responsibility to the environment. The buildings are designed to be LEED certified. LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is an internationally-recognized green building certification system. Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED provides building operators and owners with a framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions.

The company’s Norway Operation, has been awarded an Eco-Lighthouse Certification, a prestigious status that is supported by the Norwegian Ministry of the Environment. The Eco-Lighthouse Certification recognizes Solberg as a company working toward sustainability by implementing practices and processes which reduce impact on the environment and reduce overall enterprise costs.

The Eco-Lighthouse qualification process, which took four months to complete, involved key management and select employees at the Norway Operation. The process involved employees working in collaboration to conduct an environmental analysis of practices and procedures at the manufacturing facility. They then formed “environmental teams” to develop action plans and executed solutions to fulfill Eco-Lighthouse certification requirements. Solberg’s environmental analysis and action plan focused on the following areas:

Work Environment Energy Consumption
Waste Reduction Water Consumption
Waste Management Internal Information
Purchasing and Resource Management Transportation
